“But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, where there was nothing to dread. God scattered the bones of those who attacked you; you put them to shame, for God despised them. Oh, that salvation would come out of Zion! When God restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!” Psalm 53:5-6
God worked to protect David. He overwhelmed the enemies with a feeling of dread, even when there was nothing to fear. We see God doing that several times in the Scripture for the enemies of Israel. In the book of Judges, chapter 7, we read that God sent a dream to the Midianites about a loaf of bread. It was a dream about a loaf of barley bread. Bread isn’t all that scary but the Midianites knew it meant defeat. The dream informed them that the Lord had given the Midianites into the hands of Gideon and his tiny army of only three hundred men.
God did it in Bible times, but He is still doing it today. There are great stories of miracles of the Lord working in those same kinds of ways to protect Israel in their wars of 1948, 1967, and 1973.
God is able to fight for us. God is able to overwhelm those who war against Him and His purposes. When we walk with the Lord, He walks with us. We can stand on that truth.
God, help me to remember, when I am overwhelmed with fear or dread, that there is nothing that You can’t handle. Thank You for peace.
