I heard someone say once that the key to studying the Scripture and understanding was just two little words. Here they are: “Pay attention!” And do you know what? That challenge is right here in God’s Word.
“My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.” Proverbs 4:20-22
So, what is it today that we need see, listen to, embrace, determine to incorporate into our lives?
Paying attention is not just seeing. It is acting. It means that if I see it in God’s Word, I need to make it a part of my every day.
These verses make it clear that God’s Word is so important that it is to be before our eyes and in our hearts. We read it, memorize it, sing it, post it on our mirrors, put it on our walls, speak it when we are with our family and friends.
Two simple words: Pay attention!
Lord, please help me to pay attention to every word that comes from Your mouth.
