When our tiny baby is placed in our waiting arms, our love overflows from a place so deep we never knew it existed. We have become parents, and it is a job we really haven’t trained for. There have been no advanced college prep classes for the task at hand. It is the biggest assignment we have ever undertaken. We are now the guardian of this tiny life. The child may be small, but the job is enormous. We want our child protected, healthy, happy, cared for, successful, loved, treasured and above all else, committed to the Lord. A million prayers grace our lips as we stare into their beautiful eyes and know that we are not qualified for the task at hand. Parenthood is overwhelming.
So, where to begin?
“Rich and poor have this in common: The Lord is the Maker of them all. The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life. In the paths of the wicked are snares and pitfalls, but those who would preserve their life stay far from them. Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:2-6
God created this child. He made him or her. We begin everyday with Him. We train our children in the way they should go. Throughout our days we can pray at any time, in any place, and He promises to give us wisdom when we ask.
God knew the exact right parents for this child and even when the path might get bumpy, we can trust that He chose each one of us. Will we parent perfectly? No, because we are far from perfect.
But we let the Word of God be the guide on the path ahead. We teach and train these tiny lives from the Scripture.
Father, parenting is a lifetime assignment. Thank You that as a Father we can come to You with our questions and fears and uncertainty and You know the answer, because You are the Answer.
