“…God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me. But do not kill them, Lord our shield, or my people will forget. In your might uproot them and bring them down. For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter, consume them in your wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob.” Psalm 59:10-13
We have a tendency in our world today to slough off lies. We throw around curses and four-letter words as if they don’t matter. Slander, false reports, accusations, evil words, curses, blasphemy are viewed a bit like they should just be the norm.
Not true! Our words matter.
In this Psalm David goes to the Lord against those who have used their voices to express lies. He appeals to the Lord against those who have used their lips to spew lies.
God cares about our speech, our words, our testimony of His faithfulness. Our words should always reflect the fact that God is God and that He rules over Jacob, that He rules over the earth.
Father, may the words of my mouth be pleasing in Your sight and a blessing to Your ears.
