Have you ever heard someone describe the Bible as outdated, not really applicable for our times? Perhaps it has been considered as out of touch by our modern world. Maybe this Book has been referred to as old, dusty, archaic.
Listen to David’s words in Psalm 39. “Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be.” Psalm 39:6
Look at this. David could have been writing about our world today! This is a perfect description. We rush around with the great desire to pad our pockets without really knowing just who will get our vast accumulated wealth.
The question gets asked when the wealthy die, “Just how much money did he leave?”
And the answer is always the same. “All of it!”
We aren’t taking any of our money into eternity. We could have our coffins packed with it, our graves padded with it, and it wouldn’t matter. None of our stuff goes with us. It really will turn to dust.
And how long are our lives?
They are but the span of our hands. This world is but a breath.
Eternity, on the other hand, is forever. Which one should we really be planning for?
Lord, please help me to number my days rightly and to make my money, my stuff, my possessions, my life count for the long run.
