“My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, ‘Where is your God?’ These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.” Psalm 42:3-4
Here the psalmist is remembering the past, the days when he rejoiced in the house of God. And looking back is a good thing. We remember and rejoice in the moments of closeness with the Lord, the joys that God has brought, the magnificence we have witnessed of God. It is a powerful, faith building tool in our arsenal.
As long as looking back is not all we do because we have been sidelined in our walk with the Lord. The days we’ve left behind can’t be all that we have left. The psalmist says here that he used to go to the house of the Lord. Don’t let used to be all that there is of today. Make a commitment to follow closer each and every day.
God, I want to draw near and be walking with You every day of my life.
