“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. How long will you assault me? Would all of you throw me down—this leaning wall, this tottering fence? Surely, they intend to topple me from my lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts, they curse. Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 62:1-6
God is the rock. He is the firm place that David could plant his feet. It’s a little tough to know who your real friends are when you are the king or you have a high-profile job. There were those who wanted him brought down. There were those he really couldn’t trust because they may have blessed with their words, but cursed in their hearts. They delighted in lies and those aren’t people you can rely on.
But David knew where his hope was found. He could trust the Lord every day of his life. The Lord is the rock where we can plant our feet and He is the fortress where we find protection. David found that in that place of safety he was not shaken. We can have that same assurance too.
How grateful I am, Lord, that my feet are secure and my walls are protected. You are my safe place.
