“LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.” Psalm 16:5-6
David understood that God has given us Himself so we can experience a deep personal relationship with Him. He is our portion and our cup. He is our food and our drink. He is the one who sustains us.
And that relationship with Him is 100% safe. When we come to Him, He takes us in His loving arms and holds us safely there. Our future is absolutely secure, because it is held securely by Him.
And God has given us our beautiful world. We see His goodness in the pleasant landscapes, sometimes so unbelievably gorgeous we can’t speak. We experience His generosity in the vastness of the heavens, the amazing variety of animals, the abundance of trees and plants, the diversity of billions of people, the astounding variation of colors and we could go on and on. God has allowed our boundary lines to fall in such pleasant places.
And then there is the inheritance that awaits those of us who know Him. The Bible says that we don’t have imaginations big enough to even get a glimmer of what that’s like.
I have the Lord. I have security. I have this beautiful world. I have an inheritance waiting.
I am very certain that “Thank You” is not nearly big enough.
God, even though a thank You isn’t big enough I still say it today and tomorrow and hopefully every day of my life because of who You are and what You have done. I am grateful that I will have eternity to say “Thank You,” every day forever.
