Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6
Some years ago, our dear sweet mother passed away. Our dad died in his early fifties leaving Mom a widow at the age of 49. There were debts. She had to go back to work full time, but our grandma and our great uncle died shortly after our dad and she was named in their wills. Through the years she saved. She invested and she also spent very wisely. When she died there was some money for each of us six kids. We received an inheritance just as she had from her mother and uncle.
An inheritance is something that we ourselves have not earned. Someone before us did and then left it to us. I pray that someday I will be able to do that very thing for my children. An inheritance is a blessing for the one who receives it.
As Christians, we have an inheritance from the Lord. This passage at the end of Psalm 23 says that we can dwell in the house of the Lord forever. God has a place for each of us in His house.
And there’s no question, that’s an amazing inheritance, but the greatest inheritance is that we get Jesus…forever. He is Yahweh Cheleg, the Lord our Inheritance and that is beyond anything else.
Heavenly Father, how can we ever say thank You for all that You have done for us? You have given us abundant life here and the promise of heaven when we leave this earth. But our greatest gift, our most wonderful inheritance is You. We have the privilege to know You and have You in our lives. Words are not big enough and yet we say, “Thank You.”
