Let’s think about music today. Radio, TV, CD’s, big bands, small bands, or orchestras, offer ways to hear sounds that can cause our hearts to swell, or bring tears to our eyes. We can walk into a store and suddenly find our feet moving faster or our head bobbing to the beat. Music does something to us. God knows that. He put it in us to love it. There are songs that stop us just so we can listen better. In this psalm God gave a directive. “Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob! Begin the music, strike the timbrel, play the melodious harp and lyre. Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival; this is a decree for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.” Psalm 81:1-4
We are to sing, to play the instruments, and to do it before the Lord. We are to bring our musical gifts to the Him and use them. It is an ordinance of God. So hum, sing out loud today, play your trumpets, drums, harps, lyres, or ram’s horns and do it is as praise and rejoicing before the Lord. He loves our music no matter how good we are and He wants to hear it. Let’s offer Him a gift of praise in song.
Today as I go about my normal routine, help me to be reminded that I can sing and rejoice in You. I offer You my song of joy.
