All of us have parents. Some of us may look at our lives with them and thank the Lord over and over for the precious gift of their parenting. Others may look and want to look away. And some may have grown up with the word “absent” to describe the parents in their lives. Or it may be a combination.
But all of us have parents and today’s verses give us some tips about parents.
“Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Buy the truth and do not sell it—wisdom, instruction and insight as well. The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him. May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!” Proverbs 23:22-25
I can safely say that none of us have had perfect parents. There simply is no such thing as a perfect human. But it is possible to have a perfect parent.
His name is God. He wants to come to us and be the parent we need. We are to look into His face, listen to His Word, and then turn around and lead others to Him. Then we are being the most faithful to Him.
Father, I ask You for the strength and courage to always stay faithful and listen to You.
