“Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.” Proverbs 3:13-18
That’s what this is telling us to do. There is nothing that can compare to it. Wisdom is better than silver, gold, or rubies. Wisdom offers in her hand a longer life, pleasant ways, and a peaceful path. Wisdom should be something we strive for.
So how do we get it? How can we secure this commodity called wisdom?
That question is answered in another proverb. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10
Actually, we’ve already addressed this in chapter one as well. If we want wisdom we need to fear the Lord. Respect, honor, stand in awe of the Lord, and that is the beginning. Then as we delve into His Word, He unveils His wisdom yet more and more.
Wisdom, it’s better than silver, gold, or rubies, certainly worth finding.
Father, help me to seek after You, for it is in You where I find wisdom.
