The book of Proverbs is so encouraging. It gives us insight into who God is and challenges us to live lives based on His Word. But it is also very practical. The proverbs offer us real world advice and instruction.
“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, ‘Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you’—when you already have it with you. Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustfully near you.” Proverbs 3:27-29
If we have something, offer it. If we can bless someone, bless them. If we have something we can share and someone needs it, share it. Do good, not harm.
It is very practical and this kind of attitude builds relationships. These words teach us to be generous and look for opportunities to give.
We live in a “me” world. If it’s good for me, then I’m all about it. Proverbs is teaching us to live in a “you” world where we look at others and share.
It is how Jesus lived.
Lord, teach me to be more generous. Help me to see needs in others and share.
