They were talking, sharing, perhaps weeping, laughing, shouting. From the depths of grief to the mountain of hope, could it be that Jesus, the Messiah, their Savior, their Lord, was ALIVE?
People were perhaps dumbfounded. Nothing like this had ever happened. They had seen Him die. They had seen Him wrapped in that shroud. They had watched Him be taken away. But on this day Jesus had shown Himself alive.
But then suddenly...
“While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, ‘Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.’ When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, ‘Do you have anything here to eat?’ They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence.” Luke 24:36-43
“Peace be with you!”
They had just been talking about the fact that He appeared and here He stood. Yet unbelief and fear still crouched. Was this a spirit?
Jesus could see their unbelief and their fear. “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself. Touch me, and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
Jesus can see our unbelief and our fear and He says exactly the same thing to us. “Touch me and see.”
We can reach out to the King of Kings, the risen Savior, and see that He is alive.
