We can make things better or we can stir things up. We can bring it down or we can wind it up. I know people who approach life both ways. It is better to be the one who brings the calm, the gentle, the peace. It limits the hurt, the strife, the pain. As followers of Jesus we are to bring healing and help.
“Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down. As charcoal to embers and as wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome person for kindling strife. The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts.” Proverbs 26:20-22
We must avoid gossip, not add fire to it. Gossip is hurtful information that does nothing but bring pain. Quarreling is fighting over things that don’t need to be fought over. It does nothing but bring pain.
Here’s how I Corinthians puts it, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
There we have it. Live a life of love.
Father, help me to live a life of love that will impact Your Kingdom.
