Look Up

There are going to be times when we fall. Things happen in our lives to bring us down. We can feel on top of the world and suddenly something takes place that causes us to crash. Our world is filled with pitfalls that can trip us.

But there is a remedy for falling down.

It’s getting back up.

“Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous, do not plunder their dwelling place; for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes. Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice, or the Lord will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from them. Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked, for the evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.” Proverbs 24:15-20

The Bible gives us many examples of people who were down. Elijah had just finished defeating the 450 prophets of Baal. It was a fire-on-the-mountain-top day. But then Jezebel threatened his life. Elijah was afraid. He cried out to God from a dark place and the Lord answered and lifted him up. Peter walked on water until he looked at the circumstances and fell under the waves. Jesus reached down and pulled him out of the thrashing waters.

When we are down we need to look up, reach up, and stand up.

Dear Jesus, help me not to look at my circumstances. Help me to look at You when I am down or discouraged. Lift me up and help me to stand.
