This psalmist is looking forward, thinking about, praying for, and declaring for those who would come after him.
“Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord: ‘The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death.’ So the name of the Lord will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the Lord.” Psalm 102:18-22
So, what am I doing for those who will come after me?
Am I living in such a way that my children and grandchildren can safely place their feet behind mine in following after Jesus?
Will I leave behind a legacy of faith that can be spoken of in such a way that Jesus receives glory and honor?
Will what I have given my time, energy, finances, life to, be eternal or will it all go up in smoke?
Will I have prayed for, spoken to, shared with, comforted those I know and meet, leaving a trail of the presence of Christ?
Is my life a living letter that that will be left behind for a people not yet created that they may praise the Lord?
Father, I want my life to count for Your Kingdom. Please give me eyes to see how I can live today that will matter for tomorrow.
