“Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel: I am God, your God. I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me. I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine. If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it. Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?” Psalm 50:7-13
Listening to some people talk about giving, it sounds almost as if God will go broke if we don’t give. Some financial appeals make it sound as if the work cannot go on if we don’t dig deep into our pockets and write the big check.
Let’s make something clear about the Lord. He owns everything. The cattle on a thousand hills are His and He can sell them...anytime He wants. It is all at His disposal. He created the earth and it is His. We are workers in His vineyard, not the other way around.
He does not need our money.
We need to give our money.
Because we need to be reminded that it all belongs to Him.
The Lord is speaking through the palmist in these verses to us understand that He doesn’t need our sacrifice for Himself.
We need to give. It helps us to understand the true order of things and keeps our eyes on Him.
Thank You, Lord, that I have the opportunity to give. It reminds me that it all belongs to You and You allow me the privilege of using it.
