These next verses sound a lot like the evening news. The air waves are often filled with the violence of our city, world, our nation, our world. It can be frightening. But it is the way it has been since sin entered the world. But these verses combine the violence with a prayer, asking God to move in a way that only He can.
What should our response be to the problems we see?
We need to pray. We need to pray big!
Look at the words of this prayer: “Lord, confuse the wicked, confound their words, for I see violence and strife in the city. Day and night they prowl about on its walls; malice and abuse are within it. Destructive forces are at work in the city; threats and lies never leave its streets.” Psalm 55:9-11
This is a prayer for the enemy to be confused. It’s a prayer that their words will be mixed up and not able to be understood. It’s pretty hard to give direction to your enemy troop, if no one can understand what you are saying. This is a prayer that the wrong message will not get out.
We can pray this for wicked political leaders, gang leaders, cult leaders, anyone going against the things of God.
Lord, please confuse the wicked and confound their words. Please let the truth of the Gospel be heard around the world.
