Like a Dad

“Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.”

Psalm 34:11-14

David was speaking as if he had gathered his children. He was guiding like a dad teaching his little ones truth. As a wise father, he shared how to understand the fear of the Lord.

The advice? “Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.”

This means to steer clear of evil in our words and our actions.

David further advises to seek peace. The word here is shalom. It’s such a big word. It is ease, health, perfect peace, prosperity, safety, welfare, well-being, wholeness and so much more. David says to seek this, but the only way to truly know shalom is to know Christ. Seek Him and you have it all.

Lord, allow me to experience Your shalom today as I bring all my needs and requests to You.
