“Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy. Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness.” Psalm 96:11-13
The heavens rejoice. The earth is glad. The sea resounds. The fields are jubilant. The trees of the forest sing. Creation recognizes the Creator. It honors God. Every bit of the creation understands that God made it and He deserves praise and glory and song for it.
Man is the only part of creation that doesn’t get this. We have the ability to sing, to think, to rejoice, to be jubilant, to love and be loved, to let praise and honor and glory abound from our lips and hearts and minds and to do it with all of our strength. And yet, oftentimes we humans have the audacity to think and even claim that somehow we accomplish it, apart from God our Creator.
When we step outside we need to listen for the praise that is coming from the stars. We need to see with new eyes the jubilance of the fields and hear the song of the forest. Creation honors God every moment of every day. So, must we. He is coming to judge.
God, day after day the earth and the heavens pour forth honor and glory. Help me to do that in all my ways.
