There have been and are today, kingdoms in this world. Leaders fashion themselves to be so powerful that they can make choices even if it hurts their people. The leaders relish their decisions and it does not phase them that they are standing against the Lord. Some decisions are doled out against those who love the Lord. So, they are persecuted because governments have decreed that the true and living God cannot be worshiped. Nation after nation has done this. God is invisible and because He is not seen, leaders scoff and mock Him. We see it in the Bible. We see it in the world.
“Can a corrupt throne be allied with you—a throne that brings on misery by its decrees? The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. But the Lord has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge. He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the Lord our God will destroy them.” Psalm 94:20-23
