The book of Proverbs is just so filled with wise council. It addresses a whole bunch of things. One of the themes in this book is laziness as opposed to diligence. Here’s another admonition. “The lazy do not roast any game, but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.” Proverbs 12:27
In these few short words, we get some insight into that theme.
We are not told that the lazy refrain from hunting.
Maybe they actually hunt for the food…or maybe they wait on the kindness of friends to bring it straight to their door.
While we don’t actually know how they get the meat, we are given information into what they do with the game after they get it.
They don’t roast it.
So, what does that mean? Do they drop it into a pot of boiling water turning it into a dripping stringy mess?
Or does it mean if they want something to eat they tear off a piece and eat it raw?
Or could it mean that they are so lazy they won’t even take the energy to eat what they have?
And then we see what happens with the diligent.
I know which place I want to dwell.
Father, help me to be diligent and do what is necessary to feed and clothe my family.
