Laughter

Do you remember the first time you heard your child or grandchild laugh? It is one of the sweetest sounds this side of heaven. And what did that laughter do for you? It brought laughter to your lips too. Laughter is contagious and one of the great gifts that God has given. There are things in this world that are so funny, we laugh till we cry. There are situations that are so hysterical, that in the retelling, even years later, everyone bursts out laughing.

Laughter burns calories. It lightens heartache. It lifts the mood. Laughter causes us to breathe more deeply, taking in oxygen that is good for our hearts and lungs. Endorphins get released. It relieves stress. We feel better, to name a few of the benefits.

God knew that laughter was good for us. So, He gave us the beautiful gift of laughter.

And, we can choose cheerfulness. We can be ones who choose to brighten someone’s day. It doesn’t cost a thing to say a kind word. It isn’t hard to cheerfully speak to another person. We can be a source of spreading joy to others, and that is also contagious.

Let’s become a people who make laughter contagious and spread cheerfulness.

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22

Father, thank You for the great gift of laughter; may I be one who spreads joy.
