Psalm 72 ends with these words, “Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen. This concludes the prayers of David son of Jesse.” Psalm 72:18-20
Did you catch those last words? This was King David’s final prayer. These were the cries of his dying breath. Wow! His last words and someone’s last words are usually very important.
He prayed for his son who was now the new king. David passed the baton. His job was over. His son would now rule in his place. As parents, it is our job to pass the baton. We cannot, we will not, have our positions forever. The day will come when our jobs here are done.
And then the last words on David’s lips were praise to his dearest Friend, the Lord. This is how I want to go out, praying for family, praying for friends, leaders, churches, and praising my dearest Friend, the Lord.
God, I never know when death might call, help me to be one who prays and praises continually.
