There are some children’s and even adult’s books that have been written about finding a spring of special water or stumbling across some magic item or formula that allows a person to live forever.
It sounds great.
Immortality looks like it would be amazing.
Except for one thing: sin.
Way back in the Garden of Eden, God made Adam and Eve leave after they sinned. The tree of life stood in their midst and if they would have eaten from that tree they would have lived forever. The problem with that is that they would have lived forever in their sin. God did not want that for any of His children so they were cast out and a special angel guards the entrance even to this day.
Yes, immortality sounds like a thing to grasp…unless we become immortal as sinners. That is awful.
It is only when we come to Christ and He cleanses us from our sin that it would be good to live and never die. When we can be covered by our Lord’s righteousness, then immortality becomes a thing, not only to try to achieve, it is something we actually can receive.
He wants to gives us eternal life in a state of His perfection, not our own sinfulness. “In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.” Proverbs 12:28
Lord, it seems amazing that we can live forever with You. Immortality is within easy reach. We need to accept You as Savior and Lord. Help me to live for You.
