That is the question we ask sometimes? How long will this go on?
Oh, there are some things we would love to bask in for long stretches of time. Walking barefoot along the ocean shore and hearing the waves kiss the sand, driving through the mountain peaks of the Grand Tetons, a sunset that paints orange and red and gold across the sky...beauty that we want to rest in.
But there are other times that we want the day to be over so we can settle into sleep only to find that sleep refuses to make an appearance and we pray for morning to come.
Sometimes the problems are that big and the question is, “How long?”
“We are given no signs from God; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be. How long will the enemy mock you, God? Will the foe revile your name forever? Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the folds of your garment and destroy them! But God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation on the earth.” Psalm 74:9-12
The same questions are asked in Scripture that we ask. What we face has a similar profile to what the great men and women of faith faced centuries ago.
The answer is still the same, “But God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation on the earth.”
He is telling us that it will be okay.
Lord Jesus, I don’t know how long it will be that what I’m looking at is not what I want to see, but I will trust You no matter what. I don’t have to know how long because You do!
