Think about the valedictorian of your class. How did that person get there? Most likely he or she studied hard, turned in every assignment…on time, took extra hard classes, made sure every project was done with excellence. In other words, that person was really a hard worker.
Think about many bosses. How did they get to be the boss? Was it cutting corners or was it taking care with every part of the business?
Of course, there are those who have cheated their way to the top. We will find the unethical in every walk of life. But for today we are looking at those who achieved success through ethical means. For the most part, they worked hard.
“Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.” Proverbs 12:24
Those who are diligent will be at the top but the lazy will not. The lazy person gets told what to do. They are handed the broom with clear instructions of where to sweep. Many people may start at perhaps less than desirable positions, but it’s hard work that will set them apart.
And the reward for excellence in work? More work. But it usually means more responsibility as well. And with that comes a higher-level job. The bottom line is to work hard at every job God allows us to have.
Lord, help me to be faithful in the small things. Help me to work hard and bring honor to Your name.
