“My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.” Psalm 131:1-3
Can we join David is saying we are content?
Contentment is an attitude that’s hard to come by these days. It feels like the more we have, the more we want. We are constantly striving for better, bigger, tastier, faster, sweeter…more.
Today let’s look around and enjoy what we have. Let’s lay aside the wants and desires for anything else and relish what we already possess. Let’s share with the Lord our gratitude for all that He has given. It doesn’t matter if it’s a lot or if it’s a little. Let’s be content. Paul said he learned that and it was a great blessing to him. Sometimes, he had an abundance and sometimes he had very little. If we learn contentment, then we can be joyful no matter what.
Lord Jesus, thank You. I am blessed beyond measure in material things. I am so grateful for all that You have given me. But most of all I am grateful that I can know You because in that I have an abundance that is beyond comprehension.
