Where do we find delight? Our spouses, our children, our grandchildren (of course), our work, our homes, our cars, our toys, our free time, our friends? All of those can bring great joy to our hearts. And there is nothing wrong with any of those things. God created them all; they should make us rejoice.
But all of them are fleeting. One day everything and everyone that we know and love will pass away. Our loved ones can join us in heaven and we pray they will, but for here on this earth, even our dearly loved family and friends will move on.
But God’s Word will never pass away. Because it came from His mouth, the very words are eternal and we can take great delight in them. “Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.” Psalm 119:35
When we need to be encouraged, we can run to His Word.
When we need a boost of confidence, we can open the Bible.
When we need our direction corrected, we can look in His pages.
When our hearts are aching and breaking from loss or hurt, we can find comfort and peace in the Words from God.
When satan attacks and comes with great temptation, we can boldly stand on His Word.
Whatever need we have, we can open up the Scripture and know He meets us there. In that we can take great delight.
Oh Lord, how grateful I am for the unfathomable riches of Your Word. I delight in it.
