The children of Israel saw the hand of God in Egypt. There would have been no question in their minds of His great power when water turned to blood, frogs covered the land, darkness like a wet mist descended over Egypt, and only those with the blood on the doorframe escaped the death of the firstborn sons. They would have known that only God could do such miracles on their behalf.
And then they came to the Red Sea. And then they looked back and saw the armies of Egypt coming after them. And then we come to Exodus 14 and they forgot completely how God had protected them and they began to cry out against the Lord in fear. So, what did God do? He parted the Red Sea. He did it again when they came to the Jordan. When God came down on Mount Sinai, the mountain shook. God made His presence known among His people. And He gave them water from the rock. God was with them every step of the way. He took care of them in every circumstance.
“The sea looked and fled, the Jordan turned back; the mountains leaped like rams, the hills like lambs. Why was it, sea, that you fled? Why, Jordan, did you turn back? Why, mountains, did you leap like rams, you hills, like lambs? Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.” Psalm 114:3-8
He is no less powerful today where we are concerned. He makes the way for us.
Lord God help me to trust and follow You.
