“Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations. When the hay is removed and new growth appears and the grass from the hills is gathered in, the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field. You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed your family and to nourish your female servants.” Proverbs 27:23-27
We live in selfish times. We think if we want it, we should have it.
And how do we get it?
Credit card companies make billions every year based on this idea that we deserve to have what we want when we want it. And people’s lives go down in ruin because they cannot pay back what they have borrowed.
This section of Proverbs is very practical. It is about being financially responsible. Look at what we have and plan accordingly. Save for the future because not even a crown is secure.
If we put our finances under the Lord’s control and ask Him to guide our spending, we will have food and clothing for ourselves and our families.
God’s economy is the best way to live. Give a portion of our income to the Lord, save a portion, and then spend what we need to spend to live. It is amazing, if we plan to follow what the Lord has designed, how much better we can live than if we spend it all the way we want.
Lord, I turn over my finances to You. Lead and guide me as to how I should use what You have entrusted to me.
