“I say of the holy people who are in the land, they are the noble ones in whom is all my delight. Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more. I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods or take up their names on my lips.” Psalm 16:3-4
King David saw that in his day there were those who worshiped idols. They made sacrifices and poured out offerings to false gods. He recognized the price they would pay for missing the truth. He said it here in these verses, that those who followed after other gods and refused to worship the one true God, would suffer more and more.
It’s still true today. When we seek to follow anything or anyone other than God we are heading toward more and more suffering. It may not appear so at first. It may even look as if those who refuse to see their need for the Lord prosper. But Jesus summed up the truth when He asked what it would profit someone to gain the whole world and lose their own soul.
Nothing the world offers, no amount of status or wealth or even a long healthy life will bring comfort in an eternity away from the presence of Almighty God.
Father, I want to run toward You every day of my life.
