“The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, my soul.” Psalm 103:19-22
The angels in heaven, standing in the presence of Almighty God, are filled with praise and thanksgiving and worship. So, any time we begin to praise we are simply joining in with the heavenly hosts.
Part of praise is acknowledging the attributes of God. Sometimes, when I have trouble falling asleep, I will start through the alphabet thinking of one of God’s characteristics or qualities for each letter. Some are harder than others, but give it a try. Here are a few.
A- Abounding in love
B- Beginning and End
L- Life giving
M-Mighty to save
N- The Name above every name
So, you get the picture. We won’t ever adequately praise God for who He is, but every day we can begin to try.
Then there is thanksgiving, thanking God for all He has done in our lives. Salvation, family, friends, fellowship, freedom, faith, health, home, our next breath, heaven…and again, we are only scratching the surface of all that we can thank God for every single day.
And then there is worship. The word means to bow down, bend the knee and attribute worth. We yield our lives to our God and Savior. He is so worth it. No matter the circumstances in our lives, He is worthy and worth our worship. It can flow out of us in song, or words, or tears, or laughter, or silence, or great jubilation. But worship can also mean service. A big part of worshiping the Lord is serving Him. What gifts, talents, abilities have we been given to further the kingdom? It is worship when we serve.
Praise, thanksgiving, worship… “Praise the Lord, my soul.”
Father, how grateful I am that I can praise, give thanks and worship You today. You are worthy.
