“The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.” Psalm 28:8-9
In these two verses David changes his focus from himself to God’s people. He prays for others. What a great model for us. Often, we come to the Lord with our needs, our requests, our desires. Now, don’t get me wrong, God wants us to do that. We are to bring what’s in our hearts right to His capable hands. He hears us and He answers.
But we also need to pray for our friends, our spouses, our kids, their schools, our extended families, our churches, our neighborhoods, our local, state and national leaders. We can call out to God to undergird missionaries and supply needs for ministries. When we pray, God answers. David is praying for the salvation of his people.
It’s the model for us.
Today Lord, I bring missionaries, ministries, families, friends, schools, businesses, leaders and others to you. Help me to be faithful to pray for them often.
