We do what is right and get reprimanded. We speak what is right and are accused. We live what is right and get arrested. It is the world that we are living in today. Often, what is right according to God’s word is viewed as hate speech, or not politically correct, or intolerant.
It may feel like this is a new attitude, that what is wrong is deemed to be right and what is right is deemed to be wrong. But what we are experiencing today is certainly not the first time in history that attitudes like that have prevailed.
During King David’s time, wrong was also rampant. “Therefore their people turn to them and drink up waters in abundance. They say, ‘How would God know? Does the Most High know anything?’ This is what the wicked are like—always free of care, they go on amassing wealth. Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washed my hands in innocence. All day long I have been afflicted, and every morning brings new punishments.” Psalm 73:10-14
For centuries people have gone their own way, deciding that God does not know. They mock and even punish believers of God. But they are wrong. God sees, He knows, and He cares. Following the Lord may not be popular, but it is right, and in the light of eternity it is so much better to be right than popular.
Lord, help me to walk according to Your Word even when it’s hard.
