As I write this, our river is at flood stage. It has rained over and over this winter. The weather has been a repeated call for rain and storms. It has been cold but it hasn’t been the beauty of snow that we have witnessed, it has been the ground soaking, flood plain filling, downpour of rain that has come so many days. I chalk this up as a bleak winter because the days have been dark and wet.
But our winter has been mild compared to many. Snow and some of the coldest temperatures on record have closed schools, shut down businesses, forced people to stay at home and caused real flood damage. Homes have collapsed from mudslides and entire neighborhoods have been left devastated. But God’s Word declares His presence:
“The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever. The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.”
Even in the midst of terrible storms, floods, winter temperatures that dip to bone chilling cold, He is there. The Lord sits above it and sees it all. He has His hands around us and will protect us. He is peace in the middle of every storm.
You are so big, Jesus, that you sit above the floods of my life. They can be from the winter rains or they can be from other storms, but You are there. Thank You, Lord.
