Fleeting Shadow

“Lord, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them? They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow. Part your heavens, Lord, and come down; touch the mountains, so that they smoke. Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy; shoot your arrows and rout them. Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me and rescue me from the mighty waters, from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful.” Psalm 144:3-8

We humans might think we are a pretty hearty lot, but are we really? One tiny virus has become the world’s great enemy. We work hard to extend our lives, eat right, exercise, do the right stuff, but by how many decades can we actually extend our lives? Even if someone lives to well over a hundred, in the light of eternity, it’s a nanosecond. Even if someone is super strong and seems to defy odds when it comes to physical feats, in reality, man’s abilities are pretty limited.

But God’s abilities? With Him there are no limits. There is nothing that He cannot do. He parts the heavens. He sends the lightning. He defeats the enemies. He delivers. He rescues.

And more than all of that, He cares so much about us puny humans that He has made a way for every one of us to stand before Him clean and pure and justified in His Kingdom. God did what was utterly impossible for us; He made the way of salvation.

And that salvation comes from knowing Jesus Christ.

God, thank You for all that You are and all that You do.
