Fallen heroes.

Today, I’m not using that phrase to speak about those who have given their lives in the cause of justice or the battle for freedom, those lives, those names we speak of with the highest respect.

Today, I am using that phrase to talk about a different breed of heroes who have fallen. These are the ones who have fallen from the pedestals we have placed them on. I’m referring to those, who at one time we looked at with esteem, but their secret lives and hidden actions have proved them false.

With some Hollywood legends, iconic teachers, political figures, truth has a way of worming its way to the surface. And then when the secrets have been made public, the unveiled truth hurts us to the core. It wounds us. It leaves us reeling and wondering if there really are heroes. Their own deeds have sullied them in our eyes; they are fallen heroes.

People will let us down. And under a microscope, who among us would pass the test of perfection?

There is only One. So, He is the One I need to keep my eyes on. He is the One to whom I need pledge my undying allegiance. Not ever will He let me down. Not one time will He prove unfaithful. Not one action has even been, or will ever be false.

“A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

His Name is above every other name. He is worth more than all the gold or silver the world holds.

Jesus, help me to keep my eyes on You.
