Everyone Who Calls

“The King is mighty, he loves justice—you have established equity; in Jacob you have done what is just and right. Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his footstool; He is holy. Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who called on his name; they called on the Lord and He answered them. He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud; they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them. Lord our God, you answered them; you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds. Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the Lord our God is holy.” Psalm 99:4-9

One of the things I find very comforting in the Scripture is that God uses flawed people. Abraham had a child with Hagar. Jacob stole his brother’s blessing. Moses killed a guy. Aaron fashioned a golden calf. Israel strayed from God’s righteous laws. Samuel’s sons didn’t follow the Lord. King David had the whole Bathsheba fiasco and counted the fighting men which brought a plague on the nation. Peter denied even knowing Christ. Paul was at the stoning of Stephen. Yep, flawed. Not one lived a perfect life because…all have sinned. And yet, when they called on the Lord, He answered them. God was never far away. Even though He is holy and sits enthroned in Heaven, He is but a whisper away. It is true for us. No matter what we have done, He waits for us to call. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13

Father, thank You that when I call, You answer. When I ask for salvation, the answer is always, “Yes.”
