When I say the word “everlasting” what comes to mind?
No stopping point?
Never going to be finished?
Won’t be over…ever?
Yes, that pretty much describes something that is everlasting. The next section of our psalm leads with that information about God’s Kingdom. “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does. The Lord upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does.” Psalm 145:13-17
God’s Kingdom is never, ever going to be done. Our minds are finite, so wrapping our thinking around something that never ends is a stretch, at least for my feeble brain. But just because I cannot fully comprehend it, in no way does that diminish the truth.
This passage also shares another lovely idea. God opens His hands to satisfy our desires. This reminds me that I need to trust Him for everything in my life.
And I can.
Lord, this is so wonderful and big that I cannot truly understand, but I am so grateful to be a part of Your Kingdom…forever.
