Double-minded and evil are two terms used in our passage today for people who are not committed to God’s Word. Double-minded people are ones who cannot make up their mind. They waver back and forth. A person like that might say one thing and do another, or change their mind at the first challenge. These are people who will move quickly from one opinion to the opposite. They cannot be trusted because they shift. The psalmist couldn’t tolerate that. “I hate double-minded people, but I love your law. You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. Away from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commands of my God!” Psalm 119:113-115
God’s Word can always be trusted. We can build our lives on it and it will not fall. Wavering between opinions is trying to build on shifting sand. It will collapse. When in doubt, go to the Word and seek the council of God. It is where we too can put our hope.
Lord, I am so grateful that I have Your Word. I can go to it every time for counsel and guidance. Thank You.
