“But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand, since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke, I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you—when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you. ‘Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me, since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord. Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes. For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.’” Proverbs 1:24-33
When it comes right down to it, there really are only two choices for how to walk through our lives. We can do it on our own, going the direction we think makes sense, doing our own thing, and living our lives the way we want.
Or, we can choose to follow the Lord. We can take His gift of salvation, grab onto His hand, and let Him lead us every step of the way.
And there are really only two end results. At the end of a life spent walking the broad path and doing one’s own thing and entering into an eternity away from the Lord, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. They will then call. But at that moment the door will be closed and the Lord will not answer. He never knew them.
Or, for the one who knows the Lord, Jesus’ words will be the greatest of blessings. “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” Matthew 25:21
Only two choices, the question is which one will I choose?
Lord Jesus, I choose You. Help me to live to serve You.
