In this next passage, we are going to once again have diligence rise to the top. “She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.” Proverbs 31:18-21
Her light doesn’t go out. She works well past bedtime. She is generous to all including the poor and needy. Even in the worst of situations she does not fear for she has covered her loved ones in scarlet.
Wait, she covers them in red? What might that mean?
Of course, it could mean that she makes clothing from red material for them.
But is there an even deeper meaning?
Down through the Scriptures we see the word scarlet show up. The red, crimson, scarlet cord is intertwined all throughout the Bible. That color is significant because it represents blood. The blood of the lambs, the blood of the goats and oxen, all were used for the sacrifice. Without the shedding of blood there could be no remission of sins.
When this says that a noble woman covers her family with scarlet, I believe it may be referring to her praying for them. She puts them into the Lords hands and there they are safe. She can rest because when they are placed into God’s hands, she has no need for fear.
Lord Jesus, I ask that You cover each of my loved ones with Your blood. I pray for each of them for their salvation. You are the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
