“Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind. Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.”
It is pretty obvious as we read the Psalms that mankind has lived the same way for all of time. We rebel. We go our own way. We choose the things that bring death and despise the things that bring life. For many it’s not until we get to the bottom of the distress pit that we cry out to God.
But do you know what? He hears us. He listens. He responds. He rescues us. His love is unfailing and He continues to do everything to reach us with the life-changing, eternity-changing hope of the Gospel. It tells us that Jesus died to wash away our sins and if we come to Him, repent, and choose to follow Him, He saves us.
Our response then should be one of joy. We are to sing about it, speak about it, live it. There is no greater message.
How I thank You, Lord, for rescuing me.
