“Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens, you who have done great things. Who is like you, God? Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once more.” Psalm 71:19-21
Have you seen troubles? I have.
There have been days when I just want to stay in bed and pull the blankets up over my head and forget all about the world. The problem is that the blankets aren’t able to keep out the troubles.
Yes, we see troubles. Every one of us has seen difficulties, trials, tragedies, hurts, heartache.
We live in a sinful, broken world and sometimes that brokenness winds up on our front porch and forces its way into our homes. We have a choice. We can shake our fists in God’s face and say it isn’t fair, or we can trust Him through it the same way this psalmist did. Do you see the hope woven into the fabric of this psalm?
“You will restore my life again...You will bring me up...You will increase my honor and comfort me once more.”
It is standing on those promises that allows us to see the light at the end of the dark tunnel. It is a heavenly light that will one day put all of the troubles into perspective. Climb up in those promises and trust His Word. He will bring us through.
It may be dark today, but Lord, I am going to trust You that I will be lifted out of this and into Your presence. Thank You.
