The writer of this Proverb is going to finish with commentaries in groupings. For today he has a couple of things he wants to ask of the Lord.
“Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.” Proverbs 30:7-9
The writer is asking the Lord to keep him on the path that always leads to God. He doesn’t want too much or too little. He wants to not be tempted to steal and bring dishonor on God. But he also doesn’t want to be so self-sufficient that he may walk away from trusting the Lord.
This is a very wise prayer. He is asking God to give him exactly what he needs.
It is a prayer we should pray too.
Lord Jesus, please give me exactly what You see that I need. I want to stay on the path that leads me to You.
