Enemies come. Some are seen and some are unseen. People rob, hurt, war against each other. The news is filled with accounts of the wickedness that some inflict. Then the unseen enemies slip in. Sicknesses, viruses, pandemics, and they are very real threats. We are surrounded by things that would attempt to steal our lives.
It sounds pretty foreboding, doesn’t it?
The psalmist asked a few questions about that. “Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?Unless the Lord had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I said, ‘My foot is slipping,’ your unfailing love, Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” Psalm 94:16-19
He questioned, but he also knew the answer.
It was the Lord who gave him help.
It is the Lord who gives us help.
Perhaps, with everything we’ve faced recently, sickness, loss of income, jobs being furloughed, schools shut down, life changing from what we’ve always known to a completely different paradigm, we’ve experienced anxiety and fear. These words bring us great comfort. “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” Today, ask the Lord for His joy in the midst of everything we face.
Heavenly Father, thank You for consoling me in times of anxiety and fear. ThankYou that I do not face any of this alone. You are with me every moment and You offer me Your joy.
