“Flog a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke the discerning, and they will gain knowledge. Whoever robs their father and drives out their mother is a child who brings shame and disgrace. Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge. A corrupt witness mocks at justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil. Penalties are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.” Proverbs 19:25-29
We have a teaching in our world today which people love to state. It proclaims that we can do anything we want to do as long as we don’t hurt anyone else. That is never the case. Our actions have consequences, both for us and for others around us. It is the reason God has lined out guidelines for us to follow.
The verses in today’s text help us to understand we never sin alone. There must be consequences to wrong actions and guidelines need to be followed.
Freedom comes from having clear guidelines and following them. It is not doing whatever I want. It is doing what God wants.
Father, thank You for giving us Your rules that are clear to follow. Help us to be willing to obey.
