This proverb is a beautiful study in how to live life correctly or how we can choose to mess it up. Each verse looks at the right approach and then looks at the wrong approach. So, the question we need to address is which way will we choose?
“A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebukes. From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things, but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence. Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied. The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make themselves a stench and bring shame on themselves.” Proverbs 13:1-5
The right choice leads to the right way to live. The wrong choice leads to the wrong way to live. Here’s the problem, sometimes we are so blinded by the wrong way that we don’t see the consequences or failures until it’s too late. By that time, we are caught and can’t see our way out. Choose today to live according to God’s Word. It is always the right choice.
I know, Lord, that there is a way that seems right but the end is destruction. Help me to choose the right path.
